Ninja Theory's reboot runs on borrowed scriptural vocabulary throughout. Limbo City is secretly governed by Mundus, who refers to himself as a blasphemous god and is believed to be one by his followers. His media arm is Bob Barbas, a television news anchor whose repeated line is that he is just doing God's work, and who operates a prison holding everyone who opposed what the game calls the holy demonic order — inmates who cannot speak, cannot die by their own hand, and must listen to his broadcasts continuously. Mundus's mistress is Lilith, taken from Jewish demonology, pregnant with his child. Dante himself is a Nephilim, the biblical offspring of angel and demon: his mother Eva was an angel and his father Sparda a demon. Vergil's resistance movement is called the Order.
