Doom 3

Determination: Ambient — Blasphemy 1

The demonic imagery survives as decoration, but the mythology behind it is Martian science fiction.

Doom 3 rebuilds the series as survival horror on a Mars research facility, and in doing so it replaces most of the religious framing with science fiction. The invasion is opened by Dr. Betruger through a teleportation experiment; the counterweapon is the Soul Cube, an artefact of an extinct Martian civilisation; the lore is delivered through audio logs and archaeology rather than through any scripture. Pentagrams and hellish iconography still appear once the facility falls, which is what keeps this on the record, but the pervasive inverted-cross and goat-sigil decoration of the 1993 and 1994 games is not the visual language here.
