Doom: The Dark Ages
Determination: Implied — Corruption 2, Denial 1
The gods this civilisation worships are frauds who sold its souls to Hell, and the ending tells the faithful to believe in themselves instead.
The Dark Ages is the most religious entry in the series, because it is set inside the theocracy the later games only reference. Argent D'Nur is a medieval world whose culture is built on the Maykrs — an ancient race able to approach civilisations posing as Gods with the power to extend life beyond death. The Sentinels' own chronicle speaks of Maykr Gods, High Priests who engineer their weapons, a covenant, a holy coffin and a Ritual through which the Slayer rose. The betrayal is the plot: the Maykrs sided secretly with Hell during the invasion, trading access to their worshippers in exchange for Argent Energy, and later targeted Earth's souls for the same purpose. A religious schism between believers and non-believers fractures the Sentinels, and the campaign closes with Thira telling them to put their faith in themselves rather than in the Maykrs.
