Dragon Age: Inquisition
Determination: Implied — Corruption 2, Denial 2
The Pope-equivalent is assassinated in the opening minutes, and the villain says he went looking for God and found the throne empty.
Inquisition puts the player inside the church rather than beside it. A blast at the Conclave kills the Divine and most of the Chantry's leadership, the templars and mages fall into open war, and the player — the only survivor, bearing a glowing mark that can close the tears in the sky — is acclaimed by believers as the Herald of Andraste, their prophet's chosen one, then made Inquisitor of a revived holy order. The game is unusually direct about how uncomfortable this is: the player may accept the title sincerely, exploit it, or deny it, and the writing treats belief as a live question rather than a joke. The antagonist Corypheus is one of the Magisters Sidereal who breached the Golden City in the founding myth; he tells the player he went there to conquer the Maker and found the throne empty.
