Cortana returns from the Domain claiming eternal life and the right to rule the galaxy.
Halo 5 moves the religious material onto an artificial intelligence. Cortana, believed destroyed, reveals she survived her own rampancy by entering the Domain, an ancient Forerunner repository that granted her an infinite lifespan. She emerges convinced that she and the other AI — the Created — should enforce peace throughout the galaxy, and begins using Forerunner constructs called Guardians to impose it. The Domain is guarded by a Forerunner AI titled the Warden Eternal. The shape is a resurrection followed by an assumption of divine authority, but every term in it is invented, so the determination stays at ambient.
