A flawed, hypocritical preacher character — but paired with a sympathetically portrayed Catholic nun, and given a real redemption arc rather than mockery.
Reverend Swanson, a member of Dutch's gang, is introduced as a broken, drunk, drug-addicted former clergyman who lost his family and faith to his own vices. Over the course of the story he sobers up and regains his faith, becoming one of the first to sense the gang's impending collapse.
